KAMMACHI at steinexpo 2026: our review
For four days, the active basalt quarry operated by Mitteldeutsche Hartstein-Industrie AG (MHI) in Homberg/Nieder-Ofleiden provided an impressive setting for the 12th steinexpo. FromSeptember 2 to 5, 2026, the raw materials and construction materials industry gathered at Europe’s largest quarry demonstration trade fair.
The figures reported by the organisers are impressive: 62,965 trade visitors came to learn about the latest construction machinery, processing plants, digital solutions and innovations for the industry. A total of 328 exhibitors from more than ten countries presented their products and services across an exhibition area of approximately 185,000 square metres.
KAMMACHI was also represented with its own booth in pavilion 1. The focus was on digital solutions for the bulk materials industry and on how the associated processes can be mapped end to end and efficiently in SAP.
Digitally mapping bulk materials processes end to end
Bulk materials processes are among the most complex workflows in the raw materials and construction materials industry. Large material volumes, numerous delivery notes, different billing models and multiple parties involved make comprehensive process support particularly important. At steinexpo, KAMMACHI demonstrated how companies can structure and integrate these workflows with the SAP-based add-in BAUSTEIN . Topics included quotation and contract processes, delivery note creation, automated delivery note processing and subsequent invoicing. A particular focus was on the automated processing of delivery notes. Each individual note can trigger a wide range of subsequent process steps — from delivery and goods issue to invoicing. BAUSTEIN integrates these workflows into the existing SAP system landscape without the need to create additional standalone solutions.
Delivery note dashboard attracts strong interest
A particular highlight at the KAMMACHI stand was the new SAP Fiori delivery note dashboard, developed specifically for the trade fair. It provides a quick overview of all delivery notes, for example which notes are still open for which construction site? The result is better transparency in day-to-day operations. This overview is an important building block for efficient workflows, especially when dealing with large volumes of documents. Open items can be identified, prioritised and processed more quickly. This helps companies manage their processes more effectively and creates the basis for timely billing.
The discussions at the event showed that many companies face similar challenges: How can delivery notes be recorded digitally? How can different ordering parties, goods recipients, invoice recipients and payers be correctly taken into account? And how can SAP serve as the central platform for the entire process?
Processes for the construction and raw materials industries: SAP + BAUSTEIN
In addition to bulk materials processes, KAMMACHI also presented the broader capabilities of BAUSTEIN. The SAP-based add-in helps companies in the construction industry map industry-specific requirements directly in SAP. The focus is an integrated approach: processes should not run alongside one another in separate standalone solutions, but should be connected as seamlessly as possible. From quotation creation and contracts through deliveries, billing and controlling, BAUSTEIN provides the foundation for a consistent process chain.
Equipment management was another topic that attracted interest. With our ETM solution, we presented an additional way for companies to manage the structured billing of their equipment and machinery.
Exchanging ideas with customers, partners and industry representatives
steinexpo offered not only an opportunity to present solutions, but also a platform for personal discussions. The exchange with existing customers, new contacts, partners and other industry representatives was particularly valuable.
Many discussions focused on the digitalisation of the raw materials and construction materials industry and on how efficiency and transparency can be genuinely improved in day-to-day work. One thing became clear: companies are looking for solutions that integrate into existing processes and system landscapes — not isolated standalone applications.
The exchange with the MHI Group and with partners such as WÖHWA, Praxis EDV and OAS also demonstrated how important connected processes and reliable interfaces are.
A trade fair with a unique atmosphere
steinexpo stands out from conventional trade fairs above all because of its extraordinary setting. Instead of taking place in a traditional exhibition hall, the event was held in an active quarry. Large construction machines, live demonstrations, processing plants and imposing rock faces shaped the scene. The weather was also part of this year’s trade fair experience: rain, strong gusts of wind, dust and periods of bright sunshine created constantly changing conditions. But this did not change the positive atmosphere. This helped make the four days memorable for exhibitors and visitors alike.
Alongside the technical discussions, many small details at the KAMMACHI stand also attracted attention. These included edible (chocolate) “stones”, BAUSTEIN socks, 3-metre folding rules and other giveaways related to the trade fair and the construction industry.
Young people show interest in digitalisation
On Family Day, numerous families, kindergarten groups and school pupils joined the trade visitors at the exhibition site. The focus was not only on the large machines. Some young visitors were also interested in digitalisation, SAP and the processes behind the construction materials and bulk materials industries. The open exchange with the next generation was an encouraging sign for the future of the industry. Alongside high-performance technology and modern machinery, digital skills and integrated processes are becoming increasingly important.
Our conclusion
For KAMMACHI, steinexpo 2026 was a trade fair marked by many in-depth discussions, valuable contacts and concrete insights. The strong interest in automated delivery note processing, the new delivery note dashboard and the capabilities of SAP and BAUSTEIN confirms that the digitalisation of bulk materials processes is an important topic for the future of many companies.
